Bethan Pauline "Beth" Sutherland (nee Tinker) was a character in Coronation Street from 2011 to 30th August 2024. She is now Beth Sutherland and married to Kirk Sutherland, whom she calls Kirky. Beth is quite flighty. Beth is played by Lisa George.

Backstory[]
Bethan Pauline Tinker was born on the 16th November 1974 to Nancy Tinker, who was an unmarried woman. Beth grew up in Weatherfield. Sometime in the early 1990s, Beth met Steve McDonald at college. She soon met and married Darryl Parkins. They had a son Craig Tinker in 1998 but Beth and Darryl soon split up but never divorced. Beth and Steve briefly dated in 2000.
2011-2024[]
Following the breakdown of his marriage to Becky, Steve wanted to prove that he had moved on so began looking into his old contacts to call up for a date. He contacted Beth for the first time in ten years, and arranged to meet her at the Bistro at the end of Coronation Street. He boasted to his friends and Becky about the hot model that he was dating. Beth turned up alongside Craig, and disappointed Steve due to changing so much over the decade, much to Becky's amusement. The date was awkward, especially as Craig never spoke and chose to stare at Steve throughout the evening. Steve called off any further meet ups despite Beth's enthusiasm.
At the end of the year, Beth got a job as a machinist at Frank Foster's firm. When Frank relocated back to Underworld on Coronation Street, Beth followed suit and became a permanent fixture on the street. She still had an attraction to Steve, although he rebuffed her as he had moved on (at the time) to Tracy Barlow.
Following Steve splitting from Tracy, he rented their family home at Number 13 Coronation Street to Beth and Craig in an attempt to drive Tracy out, who refused to budge and wished to reconcile with Steve. But this backfired when Beth and Tracy grew close and formed a close relationship with each other.
Later in the year Beth began dating Kirk Sutherland after he saved her from an unpleasant date. Beth, Kirk and Craig formed a family unit together. In 2015, the pair married, although a year later Beth was outed as a bigamist when it was revealed she was still married to Craig's biological father Darryl.
In August 2024, Beth got a job in Norwich.
Behind the Scenes[]
- Lisa George was originally only brought in for a two episode stint as Beth in August 2011. However when she had impressed bosses, the character was brought back on a permanent basis in December that year.
- It was claimed in 2023 that George had quit the role of Beth after 13 years, and would leave in 2024. But during an Instagram post in January 2024, she seemed to hint at being on a new contract, meaning Beth will be remaining for the foreseeable future. She departed the series for good in August 2024.
Trivia[]
Beth has often been compared to Cilla Battersby-Brown due to their physical resemblance to each other and their similar personalities, although Beth is more of a gossip whereas Cilla was more fiery.
