Bobby The Cat was a cat owned by Minnie Caldwell. She bought him in about 1961 and still owned him when she moved away in 1976. He was one of the most prominent pets to appear in the series, appearing for 15 years during most of Minnie's time on Coronation Street.

1961-1976[]

Bobby lived with his owner Minnie and her mother Amy Carlton at 15 Jubilee Terrace. When Ena Sharples briefly moved in with them in December 1961 she was annoyed with Bobby always following her to the outside toilet. Following Amy's death, Minnie moved to 5 Coronation Street with Bobby. Aside from her numerous lodgers over the years he would be a constant companion in the household.

In 1966 both Bobby and Minnie came down with the flu. They were nursed back to health by Minnie's lodger and surrogate son Jed Stone.

In 1968, Stan Ogden was called to rescue Bobby from the top of the viaduct. He reluctantly agreed but his efforts were in vain as it was the wrong cat.

In 1976 Bobby and Minnie left Coronation Street for a new life in Whaley Bridge to live with her friend Handel Gartside.

Trivia[]

  • Several cats played Bobby over the years, hence why Bobby seemed to change appearance.
  • Jed himself would later own a cat in his elder years in 2008, although he named the cat Sonny Jim after the nickname Minnie was to call him in his youth.
