Devendra "Dev" Alahan is a character in Coronation Street who owns the Corner Shop plus a chain of other shops. He first appeared in Ep 4714 - 10 Nov 1999 and has been involved in many affairs and drama since he arrived, plus often been quite a bad boy, but is not an out and out villain. Dev is played by actor Jimmi Harkishin.

Backstory[]
Devendra Alahan was born on the 2nd March 1964. He may have been born in Asia or England but grew up in England as he has a British accent. He was the first cousin of Nita Desai and Vikram Desai.
1999-[]
35 year old Dev arrived in Weatherfield in November 1999 as his cousins lived there. Dishy Dev soon showed he had a roving eye for the ladies.

He slept with Deirdre Rachid in 2002, although she was already in a relationship with Ken Barlow. When Deirdre's daughter Tracy Barlow returned to the street, they slept together and Tracy found out about the affair, which she gleefully revealed to her father. Although Ken was heartbroken, he later forgave Deirdre. Dev and Tracy's relationship didn't go any further.
Dev entered into a relationship with solicitor Maya Sharma, although later got with shop worker Sunita Alahan and they got married. Maya became psychotic and burned down Dev's shops, and plotted to murder the pair. She tied them up in the corner shop and set it on fire, but they were rescued by Charlie Stubbs. Maya tried to run them down in her car, but ended up crashing into the viaduct, and subsequently had a lorry run into her. Following Maya's recovery in hospital she was sent to prison.
Sunita became pregnant with twins, and gave birth to Asha and Aadi. Amber Kalirai, the daughter of one of Dev's employees, came to stay with Dev and Sunita. Dev got nervous and he had reason to be, as it turned out Amber was a result of a relationship he had with said employee. Not only that, he impregnated most of his female workforce and also housed them. When Sunita discovered this she left Dev, taking the twins with her. Amber continued to stay with Dev.
Despite Sunita's departure, Dev was still on the prowl. She had a fling with Nina Mandal in 2008, the wife of his friend Prem at the golf club. He later went out with their daughter Tara. But when Tara found out that Dev had a one night stand with Lisa Dalton, she hatched a plan to get revenge. She had nude photos of Dev taken and display it in Victoria Street for all his neighbours to see, which humiliated Dev as well as Amber, who chastised Tara for her approach to the matter. Tara subsequently left the street broken hearted.
In November 2009 Dev saw his golfing associate Matt Davis with his two children Aadi and Asha. He went to see Sunita again, and it turned out she was in a relationship with Matt. Dev didn't approve of another man being around his kids. When Sunita's aunties came to stay, she asked Dev to pretend to still be her husband as they weren't aware of the separation. Dev agreed, and as a result the pair reconciled once again, with Matt being dumped her Sunita. They moved to Coronation Street to settle down as a family with the twins.
Sunita began working at the Rovers Return in 2012 and began an affair with Karl Munro, as she grew bored of her life with Dev. When the affair was exposed Karl got kicked out of the pub by his girlfriend Stella Price, and he moved in with Sunita whilst Dev moved out. But the relationship didn't last long due to Karl being lazy and he was booted out by Sunita as a result.
