Karl Munro was a character in Coronation Street who first appeared in Ep 7626/7627 - 17 Jun 2011, just after his partner Stella Price. He was originally a nice guy but turned bad and killed lover Sunita Alahan in the Rovers Return fire in March 2013. Karl was later arrested for his crimes in September that year and sentenced to 25 years in prison. He last appeared in Ep 8212/8213 - 13 Sep 2013. Karl was played by John Michie.

Backstory[]
Karl Munro was born on the 27th April 1963 in Weatherfield. His surname is Scottish. He lived with his parents in Weathefield. Karl worked as a taxi driver. In 2006 he met Stella Price and gave her a ride home for free. The pair grew close and got into a relationship, and although Karl was unfaithful to Stella a few times, she still loved him.
2011-2013[]
Cheery and charming Karl Munro moved to Coronation Street with Stella in June 2011 when she got the job as the landlady following Liz McDonald's departure from Weatherfield. The pair moved into the Rovers Return Inn with the owner and landlord Steve McDonald. Karl wasn't happy when Stella's spoiled daughter Eva Price moved in with them, having split up with her cheating boyfriend. Shortly after arriving on Coronation Street, Karl got a job as a taxi driver at Steve's firm Street Cars. Karl and Eva later discovered the reason that Stella wanted to move to Coronation Street was to reunite with her daughter Leanne Battersby, who Stella hadn't seen since she was a baby. Karl and Eva weren't pleased by the deception, but came to forgive Stella.
Karl began to acquire a gambling addiction later in the year. First he won a game against Ciaran McCarthy and got all of his winnings which was the wedding money for Ciaran and Michelle Connor's wedding. Karl began to spend his Street Cars fares at the casino, and despite winning the money back he would just end up gambling it all away. Stella discovered his problem but rather than splitting from Karl she chose to support him, but began monitoring his money and holding it from him. Despite this being for Karl's own good, he began to feel ashamed that his girlfriend had to hold onto his money.
Bored of life with Stella, Karl returned to his cheating ways and began an affair with newly hired barmaid Sunita Alahan. Sunita was also bored of her home life with partner Dev Alahan, and craved the excitement with Karl. Karl and Sunita resumed their affair in July 2012, but were caught by Stella, Eva and Leanne. Karl was dumped by Stella and kicked out of the pub. Dev moved out of the Alahan household, and Karl moved in with Sunita and they began a relationship together.
Karl's sinister side surfaced in early 2013 when Jason Grimshaw was dating Stella after she and Karl split up. Karl wanted Stella back. He begun stalking her and watching her going in and out of the pub from the street at night. He knew Jason had done a job on the elctrics in the pub and wanted to frame him for a fire. Karl did a striptease at a Fully Monty evening at Nick's Bistro, Coronation Street. Sunita saw him running down The ginnel. She followed him and he said he is going to frame Jason. She slipped and he left her for dead. He then saved Stella from upstairs after he discovers that Stella had gone home early and is trapped in the pub. They are trapped in the bedroom but are saved by the firefighters. Sunita is hospitalised. Karl later tampers with her life support machine. She then dies.
In September 2013, Karl tries to blame Craig Tinker for the fire after Craig had seen him leaving the pub on the night of the fire, and that Craig had thrown a discarded lit cigarette in the back yard. The truth outed and Karl later admitted everything.
In late 2013, he was given 25 years imprisonment, meaning he will not be released until 2038 when he will be 75 years old. The following year, his former neighbour Rob Donovan was also given 25 years for killing Tina. Both should be released around the late 2030s. Until then they can carry on pretending to be Norman Stanley Fletcher. Or Harry Grout.
Trivia[]
- Unknown to Karl Munro, he accomplished the task of former villain Maya Sharma by killing Sunita Alahan. Ironically enough Maya trapped Sunita (along with Dev) in the corner shop and set it on fire around eight years before Karl finished her off for good.
