Biography[]

Backstory[]

Kathleen Gutteridge was born in about 1955 in Weatherfield. In 1976, she worked at Fred Elliott's butchers in Nelson Street, Weatherfield. Fred's wife Sybil Elliott died in 1975 and Fred sought comfort in Kathleen, and they slept together. In April 1976, she fell pregnant with Fred's child. When she said she was pregnant, Fred proposed but she turned him down as she was young and wanted to be free. Fred's sister Beryl Peacock was unable to have children herself so Fred and Kathleen agreed that when the baby was born that Beryl and her husband Sam Peacock would bring the baby up as theirs.

Kathleen gave birth to a son Ashley on the 24th January 1977. Baby Ashley was then handed over to Sam and Beryl. As soon as Kathleen and Fred handed baby Ashley to his aunt and uncle, Kathleen swiftly left Weatherfield leaving no contact details. Fred was to later say "Once Ashley was born, she vanished like a puff of smoke" and lost contact with Fred. For the next 22 years, Ashley was not to know about his true parentage, that his uncle was his father. By 1999, when the truth outed, Kathleen was living in Oldham.
