Len Windass is the dodgy brother of Eddie Windass, who appeared in Coronation Street from 2008 to 2009.

History[]

Backstory[]

Len was a bad influence on his nephew Gary Windass, and somehow played a part in him becoming a bad lad.

2008-2009[]

In November 2008 Len's brother Eddie and Eddie's partner Anna refused to pay Joe McIntyre a kitchen, so in retaliation David Platt, Joe's daughter Tina and their friend Graeme Proctor tore out the kitchen. Len and Gary got revenge by tracking down their location at Number 8 Coronation Street and ripped out their kitchen, much to the shock of Gail Platt, Joe's girlfriend and David's mother. The following month, the Windass family moved into Number 6 Coronation Street, and weren't happy to be living next door to the Platts. Len didn't move into the household but would pop by and visit occasionally.

In January 2009, Gary attacked David which resulted in him being charged and due for trial. Len found out that Gary was actually struck first by David, although Tina has been persuaded to lie by David so Gary would be sent down. Len visited Tina at her workplace at the kebab shop in order to scare her. He later offered Joe (who was suffering financial difficulties) a job at his company, as long as he convinces Tina to tell the truth. Although it seemed Joe initially failed in getting Tina to tell the truth, she later confessed in court which allowed Gary to get time off. This resulted in her breaking off with David.

Len gave Joe the job but wanted him to hire Gary as an apprentice, which Joe reluctantly agreed to. But due to Gary's laziness Joe sacked him, and justified his actions to Len. But things were thrown into difficulty when Joe injured his back and was put out of work, which annoyed Len due to him already giving Joe a loan for the materials needed for the contracts.

David befriended Gary, but this was just a ruse so he could set Gary up for robbery, which turned out to be at David's gran Audrey Roberts' house, although Gary wasn't aware it was her. Gary fled and went to Len for help, and he planned to give Gary a false alibi. But Gary decided to confess to the police about the situation and was given two months in prison, and Len and Anna sent Len packing as they had enough of his bad influence on Gary and always causing his problems to become worse.

Despite Joe's back recovery he didn't return to work after suffering painkiller addiction. When he went to see Len about getting back to work, an annoyed Len revealed he was letting him go and that he had given the contract to someone else. The debt that Joe owed Len and his employers was eventually bought up by a loanshark Rick Neelan, who would hassle Joe for money and led to Joe accidentally killing himself several months later when trying to fake his own death.

Len's final visit to the street was in August 2009, when he helped Anna and Eddie deliver a birthday cake to Rovers Return Inn for Steve and Becky McDonald's reception.

After 2009[]

In 2010 Len left the United Kingdom and moved to Germany after getting a job there. Shortly after this Gary hid in his empty flat after going AWOL from the army. In April 2011, Eddie was back in contact with Len and accepted a job to go and work with him in Germany. Eddie wanted Anna to move with him, but Anna decided to stay behind in Weatherfield to look after their foster daughter Faye Butler, leaving Eddie to move on his own.
