Marcus Dent is a character in Coronation Street, who first appeared in September 2007 and last appeared in July 2014.
He was the boyfriend of Sean Tully and best friend of Maria Connor. He worked as a midwife at Weatherfield General Hospital. He left the street in September 2008 after splitting up from Sean, although the pair reconciled in 2011. The split again when Marcus began to question his sexuality and had an affair with Maria in 2012, resulting in him and Sean splitting and Marcus getting with Maria and becoming a surrogate father to her son Liam Connor Jr. The couple split in 2014 when he had an affair with a devious Todd Grimshaw, although Todd would later dump Marcus months later. Marcus and Maria made amends around this period when she knew how manipulative Todd was, and the pair parted on good terms when Marcus chose to permanently leave the street in July 2014.

Marcus was born in 1977 to parents Ron and Janet Dent. Although they loved their son deeply, they didn't approve of him being gay due to wanting grandchildren.
2007–2008[]
Marcus began dating Sean Tully. Marcus was close to Maria Connor, and helped deliver her stillborn son Paul in 2008. Later that year Marcus split up from Sean and left for a new life in London.
2011–2014[]
Marcus returned in April 2011, in which it was revealed he was in contact with Violet Wilson, the mother of Sean's child Dylan Wilson. Marcus and Sean took Dylan out for the day in London. Marcus later followed Sean back to Weatherfield and they reconciled their relationship. Later in the year they took care of Dylan after Violet was ill following a car crash.
In 2012 Marcus and Sean broke up after Marcus began an affair with Maria, having started questioning his homosexuality. Marcus settled down with Maria and became a surrogate father to her son Liam. Marcus' parents were happy with their son's family life. But the union wasn't to last as Marcus was seduced by Todd Grimshaw, and the pair had sex with each other. They were caught out by Maria who ended the relationship, and a guilt ridden Marcus moved in with Todd and later Todd's aunt Julie Carp.
Todd showed his true devious colours when he began an affair with another man and flaunted the relationship in the street, causing Marcus to snap and confront him. Showing no remorse, Todd gleefully dumped Marcus and it was clear he didn't care for him after all. A broken Marcus was supported by Maria, who came to realise how twisted and manipulative Todd was. Marcus chose to leave Weatherfield once again, and departed for London in July 2014.
