Ryan Connor is a character in Coronation Street who first appeared in August 2006 played by Ben Thompson.Ryan left in 2010 and returned in 2012 played by Sol Heras. He was originally the adoptive son of Michelle Connor, due to a mix up at the hospital the day he was born but in recent years has been considered the biological son of her, as she has spoken of him as her real son. In 2018, when Alex Neeson returned, Michelle spoke of Ryan as her adopted son again.
In 2023, Ryan was subject to a horrific acid attack which was actually for Daisy Midgeley. The attacker was her stalker Justin Rutherford. He left the street with girlfriend Crystal Hyde to move to Glasgow and become a resident DJ at a club. He will return again in 2024.
Originally Ben Thompson played the role from 2006 to 2010, with Sol Hereas being recast and playing the role from 2012 to 2013. Ryan is currently portrayed by his third actor Ryan Prescott, who would later become the longest actor to play Ryan as of 2023.

2006–2010[]
Ryan arrived with his mother Michelle in August 2006. He later began dating Sian Powers in 2009, although it was later revealed she was a lesbian and in love with her friend Sophie Webster. Although Ryan was initially disgusted and felt betrayed, he eventually came round to her sexuality and remained friends with her. He left Weatherfield in October 2010 to attend University in Glasgow.
2012–2013[]
Ryan returned in 2012 with a new face. He later got involved with older woman Tracy Barlow, although dumped when when realising she was using him to get at his mother Michelle and her ex Steve McDonald. Ryan began an affair with Katy Armstrong which broke down her relationship with Chesney Brown. Ryan chose to leave Weatherfield again in October 2013 for a new life in Ibiza.
2018–[]
Ryan returned in May 2018 after four years away and settled back into Weatherfield.
Behind the Scenes[]
- Ryan was brought into the show in 2006 as part of a new family known as the Connors. He debuted alongside his uncle Liam Connor in August 2006, with Ben Thompson serving as the first actor in the role.
- In 2010, Ryan was axed by new producer Phil Collinson, and at the time reported that he would be making episodic appearances on the show in the near future. Despite this though, the character didn't reappear until two years later in 2012, in which Ben Thompson was replaced by Sol Heras and appeared on a regular basis. The reason for the recast was because Thompson wasn't interesting in returning to the show.
- Heras chose to leave at the end of his contract, and Ryan departed in October 2013.
- In February 2018, it was reported that Ryan would be reintroduced once again during that year, following the announcement that Michelle's biological son Alex Neeson would be brought back ten years following the baby swap storyline. Heras will not be returning to the role, instead Ryan Prescott will be taking over the part. Prescott would later become the longest actor to play Ryan.
