Anthony Cunliffe was born in about 1942. By May 1964 he was in the police force and posed in uniform for a photo with his colleagues that month, including Cyril Turpin. By 1984 he had been in the police force for over 20 years.
1984[]
Tony was a local police officer who agreed to lodge with Betty Turpin, and he mentoned that he knew her late husband Cyril. Tony showed Betty the 1964 photo of him and his police colleagues, with Cyril in the photo. Tony frequented The Rovers Return. He became good friends with Bet Lynch and Rita Fairclough. Tony was quite a relaxed policeman and turned a blind eye to Billy Walker holding late night lock ins. Tony enjoyed having fun with Bet but in the end he called it quits. Bet was dejected. In December 1984, Rita and Tony had dinner, and she wanted a friendship. She still would not forget Len so Tony decided to end things with Rita and they parted ways for good.
