Umed Alahan was a character in Coronation Street and the uncle of Dev Alahan. Umed was played by Harish Patel.

Backstory[]
Umed is the brother of Ranjiv Alahan and uncle of Dev Alahan. He lived in India before arriving in the United Kingdom, and got involved in gambling which left him with a lot of debt.
2009[]
Umed arrived in Weatherfield in March 2009 in order to help Dev out at his corner shop on Coronation Street, although didn't disclose his previous issues on India. Umed didn't trust Dev's girlfriend Tara Mandal, and was proven correct when in May 2009 she exposed a massive nude photo of Dev in Victoria Street as revenge for him previously having an affair behind her back. Umed claimed the reason she wasn't trustworthy was because her mouth was too wide.
Umed decided to improve the security of the shop by attaching an alarm on the door which would make wacky sound effects. One of them was a machine gun going off, which caused local idiot Kirk Sutherland to dive for cover believing someone was shooting at him, although Kirk was amused by it.
After seven months in Weatherfield, Umed decided to come clean with Dev about the true reason he came to the United Kingdom and revealed his debts. He revealed to Dev that he planned to return to India and finally face up to his troubles. Both uncle and nephew parted on good terms, with Umed telling Dev he will always be his favourite nephew.
After 2009[]
Umed contacted Dev in 2019 to inform him that Ravi Desai was likely dying. Dev flew over to see him. However Ravi recovered.
