Vernon Tomlin was a character in Coronation Street from Ep 6175 - 2 Dec 2005, to 2008. He was the latest husband of Liz McDonald. Vernon was played by Ian Reddington, who is well known for having played nasty market inspector "Tricky Dicky" Cole in rival soap EastEnders from 1992 to 1994.

Backstory[]
Vernon was a musician before first encountering the residents of Coronation Street. Not much is known about his early background.
2005-2008[]
Vernon met Liz in December 2005 at a gig. He was known to be a bit of a womaniser and made a pass at Michelle Connor. Vernon later became a Rovers Return potman, and even helped out Roy Cropper at Roys Rolls, Victoria Street. Liz got engaged to Vernon with the marriage due for December 2007. Her ex husband Jim McDonald got out of prison early for good behaviour and still pined for Liz, and attacked Vernon on the wedding day. Jim's son Steve McDonald saved Vernon from further injuries, and banished his dad from the area. Vernon and Liz married, even though he was bloodied and bruised.
Vernon and Liz's marriage was short lived and both had flings. In September 2008 he wanted to reconcile with Liz but caught her flirting with Harry Mason. Vernon decided to leave Weatherfield for good and said goodbye to his friend Lloyd Mullaney. Vernon drove off out of the area, never to return.
Liz and Vernon were finally divorced in June 2009.
As of 2024 it is unknown what became of Vernon since his departure.
